Yesterday's Patterns & Today's Books
Published 1940 - 1954

In 1935, The Household Magazine started publishing a monthly children’s short story feature, Little Brown Koko, by Blanche Seale Hunt. The stories were in dialect. Characters included Mammy, a little girl Snooky, and a pet dog Shoog. Some women were inspired to use the monthly illustrations as a pattern for quilt blocks. The Little Brown Koko feature was so popular Hunt published three books on the character. There was even a 24-page coloring book offered from the Koko Color Club of Topeka, Kansas.
